Monday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Marvelous Monday–What is something you can do this week to make someone else feel marvelous? Be specific and make a plan.
  • Students will complete a short survey about topics that will be addressed in their class novel with Mrs. Iske.  This will be an entry event to introduce our inquiry project, which will culminate in a persuasive paper and presentation.

Tuesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt: Top Two Tuesday–Write about your top two favorite school subjects.
  • Introduction to Persuasive Writing Unit–you will research a national issue and write a persuasive speech this nine weeks.  Watch a short video, and then begin brainstorming ideas.

Wednesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Would you Rather Wednesday:  Would you rather play a hero or a villain in a movie?  Explain why.
  • Discuss the purpose of a Dialectical Journal–students will keep one during their research project to think about and reflect on their research findings and feelings regarding their topic.
  • Finish brainstorming topic.

Thursday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Three Things Thursday:  What are your three favorite things to do on a rainy day?  Give detail.
  • Mini-lesson on how to effectively research a topic.  Complete a Google search activity.

 Friday

Good Friday Holiday–no school.

  • Students will complete a short survey about a variety of local, state, and national issues. This will be an entry event to introduce our inquiry project, which will culminate in a persuasive speech and presentation.

Tuesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt: Top Two Tuesday–Write about your top two favorite hobbies.
  • Introduction to Inquiry Project–students will be researching an issue of their choice and writing a persuasive speech.
  • Begin brainstorming ideas.  Participate in a Bad Idea Factory in the Think Lab.

Wednesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Would you Rather Wednesday:  Would you rather play a hero or a villain in a movie?  Explain why.
  • Students will take the results from their Bad Idea Factory yesterday and narrow down to a topic they would like to write about.
  • Introduce the Research Proposal and Dialectical Journal.

Thursday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Three Things Thursday:  What are your three favorite things to do on a rainy day?  Give detail.
  • Mini-lessons Day:  Formulating a Driving Question; Evaluating Sources; How to Use Diigo to bookmark sources; Effective Google Searches.

Friday

Good Friday Holiday–no school.

  • Work on diagnostics Learning Odyssey.

Tuesday

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on Vocabulary in Moby Max.

Thursday

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on diagnostics in Learning Odyssey.

Friday
