Monday

  • School Holiday

Tuesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt: Terrific Tuesday–What was terrific about your Easter holiday?
  • Students will free write their feelings, ideas, and thoughts about gun control, which is an issue pertinent to the novel they are reading in Mrs. Iske’s class.
  • Students will then be given a side of the issue to brainstorm arguments for and discuss them in their small groups before discussing them as a class.

Wednesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Would you Rather Wednesday:  Would you rather lose your ability to speak or have to say everything you are thinking?  Explain why.
  • Students will discuss the purpose of a Dialectical Journal–students will keep one during their research project to think about and reflect on their research findings and feelings regarding their topic.
  • Students will finalize how they want to answer the writing prompt and then brainstorm reasons for their position.

Thursday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Three Things Thursday:  What are three things you are proud of?  Give details.
  • Mini-lesson on how to effectively research a topic.
  • Students will complete a Google search activity.

 Friday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Feel Good Friday: What makes you feel good about yourself?
  • Mini-lesson on how to evaluate sources during research.
  • Students will evaluate a source that will be useful in their research.

  • Respond to the following journal prompt: Terrific Tuesday–What was terrific about your Easter holiday?
  • Students will brainstorm topic ideas for their persuasive speech.  Once they know the topic, they will create a writing prompt, essential question to drive their research, and a thesis statement.

Wednesday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Would you Rather Wednesday:  Would you rather lose your ability to speak or have to say everything you are thinking?  Explain why.
  • Introduce the Research Proposal and Dialectical Journal.

Thursday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Three Things Thursday:  What are three things you are proud of?  Give details.  
  • Mini-lessons Day:  Formulating a Driving Question; Evaluating Sources; How to Use Diigo to bookmark sources; Effective Google Searches.

 Friday

  • Respond to the following journal prompt:  Feel Good Friday: What makes you feel good about yourself?
  • Finish mini-lessons from yesterday if necessary.
  • Spend time working on the research proposal.

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on diagnostics Learning Odyssey.

Wednesday

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on Vocabulary in Moby Max.

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on diagnostics in Learning Odyssey.

Friday

  • Respond to journal prompt in Power Writing Journal.
  • Work on diagnostics in Learning Odyssey.
