Writing an Effective Blog Comment

When we create posts on our blogs, it’s helpful for our peers, family, or teachers to acknowledge those posts in a meaningful way. I learned from another class blogger (Mrs. Yollis’s Blog) that there are important steps in writing an effective comment.

Step 1: Open with a specific compliment for the writer.

Step 2: Add information; if you know something about what they have written, add your own knowledge; but check other comments that have been written to make sure you are not repeating what someone else has already said.

Step 3: Make a connection. If the blogger has written about a camping trip for instance, and it makes you think about a time you went camping, tell them. This creates a connection and a conversation.

Step 4: Ask a question. This is another effective way to create a meaningful connection with the writer. If they have written about a topic you want to know more about, ask them a specific question. They will answer.

Step 5: Proofread your comment. Check for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and other grammatical errors. Your comment makes an impression~you want to put your best foot forward.

In addition, you should write your comments in a letter format with a salutation and closing. Most importantly, however, DO NOT give any personal information in your comment such as a last name. Always sign with your first name only.
